Welcome to the Web site of Palma (Majorca) Reformed Baptist Church! |
Who are we? We're a Christian church, a spiritual family. |
The word 'Christian' comes from 'Christ', and he, Jesus Christ, is the centre of our lives. He is our Saviour and our Lord; and we've come to believe in him, we've been saved by him, we love him and we want to follow him and serve him. |
And precisely because we do love the Lord Jesus Christ, we also love the Bible. There's a close connection between the two. After all, what would we know about Jesus Christ if we didn't have the Bible? It's true that there are other first Century books that mention Christ, or Christians, but the Bible is the main source of all that we know about Jesus Christ. And in the four Gospels (in the New Testament), Jesus demonstrates again and again his complete confidence in the writings of the Old Testament as the Word of God. And the books of the New Testament were written by some of the first leaders of the Christian Church. That's why we try to base what we believe and what we do on the Bible, the Word of God. |
But what is the real Christian message? In a word, it's the message that's called 'the gospel', which means 'the good news'. With so much bad news about, it's a good job that there's some good news as well! So, what is the good news? Let me sum it up for you in a few words: God sent his own Son to this world to save people like you and me! |
Maybe you're thinking, 'To save us from what?' Putting it simply, to save us from sin and its consequences. Sin is anything that is wrong according to God. Yes, there's plenty of it about in this world of ours, isn't there?! But 'this world of ours' means us! And the sin that there is in the world is the sin that, between us all, we've committed! It's true, of course, that not everybody is equally bad, or sinful, but that doesn't change the fact that, as God sees things, we all need to be saved. |
So, how can we be saved? How can we be at peace with God? The first thing we need to be absolutely clear about is that it's impossible for us to save ourselves – we can't deserve to be saved by being good, or by doing good, or by practising some religion or other. There's only one Saviour, and that's the Lord Jesus Christ. He's the one who saves us – by his life, his death (on the Cross) and his resurrection, because he became a human being, and lived, and died and rose from the dead, to save all those who really believe in him, and trust him and only him as their Saviour. And our faith has no merit, either – it's just the spiritual beggar's empty hand, with which he accepts with deep gratitude the free gift of salvation. |
Have you understood the good news? Have you felt your own need to be saved? Have you stretched out your empty hand to accept what God offers you through his Son? |
If there's anything in all this that you don't understand, or if you don't agree with something, or if you just want to carry on thinking about your spiritual situation, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. After all, what could be more important than being at peace with God?! |
